So far my experiences in Spain with the food and drink have
been all over the spectrum. One
big difference that I have noticed is that there aren’t very many “chain”
restaurants here as in the United States.
Also for many of the restaurants and cafes, you have to get someone’s
attention if you want something instead of them coming to you. As for the food, I think a lot of it is
very bland and needs some spices to it.
The only thing that I have eaten so far that I haven’t liked at all was
plain yogurt and I can get that at home.
They also eat a ton of fish, but it makes sense since Bilbao is so close
to the water. The biggest surprise
for me has been Coke. It seems like
Coke is the most popular drink here, which really surprised me. I was also surprised to see that they
serve beer in our chain restaurants such as Burger King and McDonalds. For the most part the bars are the same
here except they are smaller which is like everything else in Europe. The only difference is that they serve
pintxos or tapas here which is something that I wish we did more of at
home.
